When pandemic closures hit local kitchens and warehouses, we converted weekend workshops into curb-side grocery kits and phone-based financial counseling for furloughed workers.

IMPA Benevolent Charity began with a simple conviction: dignity should not depend on a lucky month. From our earliest meal lines to today’s crisis counseling network, we remain a community foundation with open books and open doors.
Origin
From a Storefront Promise to a Public Charity
In early 2018, organizers in greater Chicago saw families choosing between heat and groceries after sudden job losses. On February 13, 2018, IMPA Benevolent Charity received IRS recognition as a tax-exempt public charity. By September of that year, our determination letter affirmed classification under Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3) and public charity status under section 170(b)(1)(A)(vi).
Today our mailing home is 6401 W 31st Street in Berwyn—close enough to walk the same sidewalks as the households we serve. Weekend workshops fill church basements. Emergency counselors answer phones after second shifts end. Volunteers still pack rice, beans, and fresh produce the way they did on our first distribution days: carefully, personally, without spectacle.
Our long-term roadmap is steady rather than flashy: deepen crisis relief capacity, expand career workshops that end in interviews, and grow youth and senior care so no neighbor ages—or grows up—alone.
